I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist with over 20 years of combined counseling, coaching, and therapy experience. I feel fortunate to inherently see strengths in others, see seeds of hope and possibilities, and connect with people where they are at a given moment in time. My initial goal in working with individuals, families, and groups is to understand who and where you are now and who and where you want to be. From there, we can move forward in the direction of your goals. |
I grew up in Greenville, NC and graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minor in Business. My earlier work experiences were in the areas of behavioral weight management and human resources. I then enjoyed a rewarding 12-year career in financial coaching and professional development.
Over the years, through a combination of professional and personal experiences, I developed a strong interest in working with individuals and families impacted by substance misuse, trauma, and ongoing family conflict. This interest led me to graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and I graduated from their Masters of Social Work program with a Substance Use & Addictions Specialist Certification. While completing my MSW, I also received extensive training in the family systems model created by the late Virginia Satir. Satir’s core philosophy is that positive change is always possible, and this idea serves as the foundation for all of my work.
Following graduation, I worked as an addictions therapist at an outpatient treatment program. In addition to providing therapy to individuals, couples, and families, I also facilitated weekly treatment groups, including a group specifically for women experiencing co-occurring substance misuse and trauma. I also had the pleasure of creating and facilitating the multi-family treatment group—an opportunity for families to learn and heal together.
In 2016, I began Suzanne Brown Resources, PLLC, which affords me the flexibility and time to create an array of resources to help others, as well as collaborate with a wide variety of colleagues in the recovery, substance misuse, codependence, trauma, and family treatment community.
